The monasteries fulfilled the social functions now done - or neglected- by the state. It was in all probability kinder, more dignified and certainly more humane than the present.
Awwwwww I’m so sorry that it sucks to be a fat coward. Fortunately I have no idea how that feels.
But just in case you actually want information, for those of us who have the courage to document things these days, filming anything in Paris is terrifying, and you have to point the camera backward and pretend to be taking a selfie, because of the illegal Africans think you are filming them, they will assault you.
Aw come on, Ann. I’m already subscribed to “the real channel”, and now that I discover you’ve secretly had this other channel, you’re gonna get rid of it? Before I’ve had a chance to watch the videos?? And leave a buncha affectionately wise-ayuss comments???
FYI, I already did leave one…on the video titled “Yes, the antifa started it. Now everyone go to your rooms.” …the one warning dickheads who wanna punch “Nazis” in the face that there are likely to be karmatic consequences. You packed a lotta wisdom in that piece, which turned out to be remarkably prophetic.
Anyhow, for whatever it’s worth, I think you oughta leave the channel up. And now I’m gonna go watch some more stuff over there. 😎
Actually, I thought I had finished reading all the Brett and Leslie episodes, but apparently I was mistaken. They’re brilliant in print. Do the videos cover the same ground?
You’re welcome…although I’m prolly gonna end up thanking you.
[…uh-oh…sounds like he’s fixin’ to go philosophical; buckle up…]
I’m hitting some kind of crux now, dealing with some shit that seems like an Existential Crisis™, but is prolly just more of the bullshit that life throws at you/me/us. We think our pain/suffering is “special”, or some shit, and I guess it is, in the sense that no one else has exactly the same circumstances.
But I’m not sure that the various versions of hell we go through (many of which are ultimately of our own making) are really all that different. I’m not talking about the shit that others force on us. Those suck, but we don’t have a hand in creating them. They’re not under our control.
I’m talking about what we think about the shit that happens. That part is totally up to us.
Anyhow, the Brett & Leslie thing is a tragicomedy, some elements of which are real, and to the extent that they mirror the Life of Ann, you survived them. That’s valuable to know…for me, right now.
I guess that maybe part of it is seeing, “Look pal…somebody else had to deal with some fucked up shit, and lived to tell about it.” And my shit isn’t even that fucked up. So I don’t wanna hear any whining and bitching from me.

Indeed. Including the transmission of scholarly knowledge.
Be sure and post something when that book you translated comes back into print.

Shit, I need to get rid of that channel, it has a few of my sitcom episodes and tricks people into not going to the real channel : https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1nCsCOH8eJPjQR32fCfw8q54ImCdE_dW&si=N2C93grR5gD9qkEG

Aw thank you Vito! Maybe I will just take down the animation videos on that channel. That might allay the confusion.
Cool!

Ps thank you!

“…got it, pal?”
Yeah. Got it.
Yeah they’re the same, just read in what may or may not work as an ASMR style
